AUTHORITY OPTS TO EXPAND INTO PARTS OF RUSHCLIFFE, BROXTOWE AND GEDLING

City council's shake-up plan would split boroughs in half

NOTTINGHAM City Council has confirmed that its preferred option in a huge shakeup of boundaries is to expand the city in a move that will split three areas in two.

The Post previously reported on concerns from leaders in areas such as Rushcliffe and Gedling that their patches will be subject to a city council "land grab'.

The Labour-run authority previously said it was only exploring the option of its own boundary review, but the council confirmed on Thursday that it will officially submit its boundary review proposal to the government.

A map previously revealed one vision of how parts of Nottinghamshire could effectively be split in two under the city council's plans.

Rushcliffe would be split straight down the middle, with the A46 seemingly being used as the divid ing line to separate areas to the left that would merge with the city and those to the right that would be left behind.

It would mean Bingham and scores of small Rushcliffe villages like Tithby and Colston Bassett being part of a new county council, whilst areas like West Bridgford, Radcliffe-on-Trent, Ruddington and Keyworth would join the city.
