The Chase host, Bradley, is up for pottering around and hitting the beach for some sun, while actor Barney is more interested in pushing his dad's buttons and making him step fully out of his comfort zone.

Barney has really put me through my paces

So, yes, the sandy beaches in the southern islands of Thailand were spectacular, “not that I got to do much sunbathing!” says Bradley. “Barney really put me through my paces this series.”

Kicking their exploits off in Tokyo, they spent a night in a futuristic capsule hotel.

“You’re going to love it Dad, it’s a proper authentic Japanese hotel experience. It’s £18 a night. You get a capsule room and you get to use the spa,” Barney tells his dad on camera, who on realising he’ll be sleeping in what’s essentially a two-metre-long tin coffin, replies: “Well, this ain’t The Dorchester, is it?” Poor Bradley.

Barney also chivvies his dad into facing his fear of heights, first in the Arakawa Valley, outside of Tokyo, where he’s got to cross a hanging bridge, made from seemingly rickety wooden planks.

“People are sitting at home going, ‘What is the matter with him? He’s a wimp,” says Bradley. “The worst part is that you can see through the slats.”
