Apology after medical files relating to dead babies were destroyed

NOTTINGHAM hospital bosses have apologised after clinical records some of which relate to babies who died were deleted before they could be passed to a major maternity inquiry.

Crucial files requested by the independent review into Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) were destroyed in March 2023, six months after rules were introduced to keep any such records from being destroyed, the Post can reveal.

NUH, the trust which runs the Queen's Medical Centre and City Hospital, is subject to the largest maternity review in NHS history and multiple Nottinghamshire Police investigations.

Senior midwife Donna Ockenden is leading the independent review of more than 2,500 cases of harm at the trust and is due to deliver her findings in June 2026.
