WOLLATON PARK’S SENSORY GARDEN NOW OPEN TO THE PUBLIC - THANKS TO DEDICATED BUNCH OF VOLUNTEERS
A HIDDEN garden once covered in ivy, brambles and graffiti is now a tranquil oasis thanks to the “sheer determination” of volunteers.
Wollaton Park Walled Garden sat derelict and was forgotten for years.
That was until 2007 when a number of residents discovered the garden by chance when taking their dogs for a walk around the park.
Years later, and after an intense 18 months of graft from volunteers, a new “sensory garden” has been opened to the public.
The four-acre garden, which also grows fruit and vegetables, has been completely transformed by volunteers, many of whom got involved during the pandemic.
The garden was officially opened on Thursday by the Sheriff of Nottingham - Wollaton Councillor, Zafran Khan - joined by the ward's other two representatives on the city council - Councillor Saj Ahmad and Councillor Steve Battlemuch.
Speaking at the event, Andy Jackson, one of the initial volunteers at the garden, said the opening comes after 18 months of hard work.
