Airport admits polluting Trent with plane de-icing chemicals

EAST Midlands Airport (EMA) has admitted illegally polluting the River Trent with chemicals used to de-ice planes and runways.
Bosses of the Castle Donington airport pleaded guilty to three environmental offences during a court hearing this week.
The charges relate to incidents between Friday, January 14 and Friday, February 4, 2022, when the airport breached its environmental permit conditions. The guilty pleas were entered at Derby Crown Court on Tuesday.
All charges involved excessive levels of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) in wastewater discharged from the airport's facilities.
