£1m deal takes health centre plans forward

YEARS of "limbo" over whether a town will get its promised NHS "super health centre" are set to end, thanks to a £1 million deal.

Hucknall was one of six UK towns shortlisted to host a new super health and wellbeing hub.

The sites would have been known as Cavell Centres, named after British First World War nurse Edith Cavell and would have brought services including GP practices, pharmacies and dental clinics together in one building.

The previous government paused the pilot programme in 2023 and uncertainty has plagued Hucknall ever since.

The new Labour Government has not committed to delivering the scheme since coming into office and it is understood the difficulty surrounded the cost of the NHS buying a suitable building.
