Regional Office, State Pollution Control Board (SPCB), Berhampur, Odisha organized an impactful awareness meeting on 5th June, 2025 at the New Conference Hall of Berhampur University, in collaboration with the Department of Environmental Science, Berhampur University and supported by Tata Steel Foundation. The event witnessed active participation from over 450 attendees, including students from various schools and colleges, representatives from ULBs, industries, hotels, NGOs, researchers, academicians, and local think tanks. The day was marked by a series of engaging activities, including brainstorming sessions, stakeholder open debates and discussions and on-the-spot quiz competitions. 70 gift kits were distributed to the winners of the on-the-spot quiz competition. These sessions focused on finding effective strategies to mitigate the growing issue of plastic pollution. A wide range of insightful suggestions were received from diverse stakeholders during the open discussions.

Deepak Kumar Sahoo, Regional Officer, SPCB, Odisha, stated that plastic pollution is becoming an invisible danger from affecting ecosystems, polluting our oceans and rivers to entering our food chain. Further, he stressed that enforcement alone cannot solve the problem. Public participation, behavioral change, and lifestyle modifications are crucial in winning the war against plastic pollution.
