Smartphone damage drains Indian wallets: Users spend ₹5,000 - 10,000 on repairs

According to the JulyAugust India Smartphone Durability Consumer Study 2025 conducted by Counterpoint Research and OPPO India, durability has a deep impact on both consumer choices and emotions.

The study, compris ing over 4,500 respondents across 26 cities in India, found that smartphone durability had become a concern for users with 78% of users avoiding using their phones in rain, water, or extreme heat due to fear of damage. Some 56% said they felt upset, 39% felt very anxious and only 5% didn't care when their phone fell or cracked. Another 35% confessed to constantly worrying about damaging their device, clearly indicating that smartphone durability is directly tied to peace of mind and that repair costs were putting added strain on household budgets.

The emotional toll of a broken phone goes beyond hardware. The study found that more than 85% of the respondents used their phones with wet or oily hands, during cooking or commuting while 52% said they relied on their smartphones for daily life and work and could not afford disruptions caused by accidents.
