- The Qatari authorities filed a charge sheet against the accused in March 2023 and a court sentenced them to death on 26 October
A Qatar court on Thursday commuted the death sentence of 8 former Indian Navy officers convicted in an alleged espionage case.
The Union ministry of external affairs (MEA) said that the appellate court has "reduced" the sentences of the Navy veterans on the death row. The Indian government will continue to extend all consular and legal assistance to the Indian citizens and also continue to take up the matter with the Qatari authorities, it said in a statement.
