Vow to fight for democracy, Constitution and people 'reeling under inflation, unemployment'

Twenty-six opposition parties on Tuesday announced a prepoll alliance called the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) to take on the BJP-led NDA-it rallied 38 parties in a meeting on the same day-in the 2024 Lok Sabha election.

Setting the stage for a battle of alliances, opposition leaders meeting in Bengaluru claimed their fight will be to save the country, its democracy, the Constitution and for people reeling under inflation and unemployment. A resolution said that "as a first step" these parties will implement a Caste Census.

The new alliance will form an ll-member coordination committee at the next meeting in Mumbai, set up a secretariat for campaign management in Delhi and launch an intense campaign on a number of issues across states. A resolution titled 'Samuhik Sankalp' highlighted its core principals to safeguard the idea of India and present an alternative political, social and economic agenda.
