Personality rights are a legal safeguard granted to individuals—especially celebrities and public figures—to control the commercialization and use of their name, image, likeness, voice, signature or persona.
The justification stems from John Locke’s labour theory, which holds that something created through a person’s labour and skill rightfully belongs to them, giving the creator the sole right to use it.
