Centre extends mandate for imported coal-based plants

Mid projections of record power demand, the power minister has directed imported coal-based (ICB) power plants to operate at full capacity till 30 June.

In a directive to the ICB plants, the power ministry said that it has extended the time period for Section 11 of the Electricity Act until the end of June. The mandate was last extended in February until 30 April.

"In view of the power demand scenario in the country, it has been decided to extend the time period of the Section 11 directive to generating companies having Imported Coal Based plants till 30.06.2025," said a letter to the power plants viewed by Mint.
