Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is rapidly emerging as a major public health challenge in India, imposing a significant economic burden on individuals and the healthcare system.

This growing epidemic is fuelled by the rising incidences of diabetes and hypertension—two primary risk factors for kidney disease.
The result is a ballooning number of patients who will eventually require dialysis, a lifesaving but costly procedure. This presents a critical challenge to the nation’s healthcare infrastructure, a problem compounded by significant market failure: India's heavy reliance on imported dialysis machines.
THE IMPORT DEPENDENCY TRAP
Currently, the vast majority of dialysis machines used in India are imported. This dependence creates several economic and logistical hurdles:
• High Capital Costs: Imported machines are expensive, making it financially challenging for hospitals, especially in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, to establish or expand dialysis centres.
