Sensex, Nifty crash nearly 3% amid US recession fears

Nikkei plunge sparks domino effect

Stock markets experienced a severe downturn on Monday, with benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty plunging nearly 3 per cent amid growing concerns of a potential US economic slowdown and weak global market trends.

The BSE Sensex nosedived 2,222.55 points (2.74 per cent) to close at 78,759.40, its lowest level in over a month and its worst single-day performance since June 4, 2024. During intraday trading, it plummeted as much as 3.31 percent to 78,295.86.

Similarly, the NSE Nifty tumbled 662.10 points (2.68 per cent) to end at 24,055.60, after falling as much as 3.33 per cent to 23,893.70 during the day.

Both indices recorded their steepest single-day declines since the post-election crash in June 2024.
