High alert in Bareilly; drones deployed, internet services suspended for 48 hours

Security arrangements were stepped up across four districts of Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly division on Thursday amid Dussehra festivities, with heavy police deployment, aerial surveillance through drones, and a 48-hour suspension of internet services in Bareilly district.

According to an order issued by the state home department, mobile internet, broadband, and SMS services have been suspended in Bareilly from 3 pm on October 2 to 3 pm on October 4. The directive cited the possibility of misuse of social media platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, and YouTube to spread rumours and create communal tension.
