Record-breaking P6.79-T budget OK'd

Proposed 2026 budget ready for submission to 20th Congress

Despite limited resources, the Cabinet-level Development Budget Coordination Committee (DBCC) has approved a record P6.79-trillion national budget for 2026, with a focus on social services.

Next year’s record-high proposed budget would support sustained delivery of public goods and services amid expectations of slowing domestic growth, brought about by external economic challenges such as the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, and the three-month-old tariffs imposed by the United States (US).

Data showed that this has increased by 7.4 percent from this year’s budget of P6.32 trillion. This is also equivalent to 22 percent of the country’s economic output.
