PH exports rise in Jan. as tariff risk falls back

Philippine merchandise exports grew for a fifth consecutive month in January, supported by a shift in United States (US) trade policy and robust demand from regional partners, even as overall momentum cooled from a late-2025 surge.
Data released Friday, Feb. 27, by the Philippine Statistics Authority showed overseas shipments rose 7.9 percent from a year earlier to $7.09 billion. While the expansion marked a three-month high in value, it represented a slowdown from the 23.9 percent jump recorded in December and the 9.6 percent growth seen in January 2025.
The deceleration follows a period of front-loading by exporters last year who were rushing to beat the threat of higher US trade barriers.
