Magnitude-6.0 quake jolts Surigao del Norte

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said a magnitude 6.0 earthquake shook Surigao del Norte at around 7:03 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 17.

The tremor was initially measured at magnitude 6.2 before being revised.

Phivolcs said the epicenter was located 22 kilometers southeast of General Luna, Surigao del Norte, at a shallow depth of 28 kilometers.

The Surigao quake was the latest in a string of tremors experienced throughout the country since Sept. 30.

This developed as relief works continued in other places where local residents continued to reel from the effects of the previous earthquakes.

In Bogo City, President Marcos returned for a visit on Friday, and said all families displaced by the strong earthquake in Bogo City are now staying at the temporary shelters set up by the government.

Marcos said he was satisfied with the response, stressing that all affected families temporarily living at the "tent city" have food and source of water.
