'Kailangan may managot, Mayor Vico says on flood control projects probe
September 3, 2025
|Manila Bulletin
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto on Tuesday, Sept. 2, said that those responsible must be held accountable as authorities have started investigating the alleged anomalies in flood control projects.
Sotto issued the statement following the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing on Monday, Sept. 1, attended by all 15 contractors who received the lion's share, about 20 percent, worth P100 billion, of the country's flood control budget over the past three years, including Sarah Discaya, owner of Alpha & Omega General Contractor & Development Corp.
“Kailangan may managot. Contractors, politicians, and DPWH and other government employees. Kung hindi, paulit-ulit lang ‘to mangyayari sa bayan natin (Those responsible must be held accountable. Contractors, politicians, and officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and other government agencies. If not, this will continue to happen in the country),” Sotto said.
The mayor also posted personal notes on his Facebook account about the hearing, saying, “Hindi sila masyadong honest (They’re not that honest),” and detailing his observations from the session.

This is a time for ideas, not just emotions
In last week's column, I tackled how our political and economic uncertainties need meaningful discussion so that solutions can be pursued. The inability to do that will leave us mired in repetitive drama, with much noise but little meaning needed to move forward. This breeds despair and anxiety, and a lack of hope for the future.
