Forensics say bullet that killed teen in Tacloban fired from 9mm Glock

Forensic findings have confirmed that the bullet that killed a 15-year-old boy during the shooting incident at San Jose National High School on Monday, June 22, was fired from a 9mm Glock pistol.

He was one of three students killed and 20 injured when two Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL) went on a shooting spree at around 9 a.m. while classes were ongoing.

Philippine National Police Regional Forensics Unit 8 physical examination and ballistic comparison showed that the recovered 9mm jacketed ammunition bore consistent class characteristics matching a 9mm firearm with six grooves and right twist rifling, consistent with the seized pistol.

Investigation revealed that the firearm was allegedly owned by the 14-year-old suspect's aunt, a police officer.

She has been placed under restrictive custody while facing administrative proceedings, including possible summary dismissal from the Philippine National Police.

The family of the slain boy, who was widely regarded by the community as a hero, urged full accountability from all responsible parties, including the owners and custodians of the weapons used.

"We will pursue all necessary legal actions, even though the direct perpetrators are minors," his mother said.

Authorities have filed charges against the 15-year-old CICL for three counts of murder, three counts of frustrated murder, and multiple cases of serious physical injuries.
