₱5,000 fine awaits motorists with tampered license plates

Filipino ingenuity has expanded to the implementation of the No-Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP), with some motorists allegedly tinkering with their license plates to fool the artificial intelligence (AI) in the closed-circuit television (CCTV) system installed in major roads in Metro Manila.

But officials of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) are not impressed and even warned motorists, particularly motorcycle riders, of harsh consequences when it comes to penalties.

According to MMDA Traffic Discipline Office head Victor Nuñez, any motorist who would be caught covering or tinkering with the license plate could pay a maximum fine of ₱5,000.
