Giant Gladiator statue has returned after complaints

A CONTROVERSIAL giant nude statue, previously banned by a council, has been reinstated following a campaign.

The near-30ft-tall gold Roman Gladiator statue, once used to promote the Russell Crowe blockbuster in 2000, is now back in place at Bulldog Forge in Ince, Wigan.

The beloved figure, affectionately known as 'Golden Balls' and 'Willy' by locals, was removed three years ago, after complaints from neighbours.

The decision sparked outrage among some locals, with petitions calling for its return.

Grant Adamson, 60, owner of the vintage store where the statue is located, said its return after three years will spread "Christmas cheer".
