INSPECTION REVEALS RAAC IN OLDER BUILDING USED FOR STORAGE

DANGEROUS concrete has been discovered at a building on the sprawling Oxford Road site home to Manchester city centre's hospitals.

RAAC has been found within the ground floor circulation corridor of the Old Saint Mary's Hospital building, which houses reproductive medicine.

The RAAC was found in an area which doesn't have patient beds in it. The concrete has been used in public buildings across the country, including schools and hospitals, and has hit the headlines in recent years due to the danger it poses of crumbling and collapsing as it reaches the end of its lifespan.

The lightweight, cheaper form of material was compared to a 'chocolate Aero bar' and slammed as a 'ticking time bomb' by one NHS chief executive as concerns about its prevalent use in hospitals began to swirl.
