READERS may already be aware that at a lengthy meeting of Cheshire East Council recently the Council's budget for 2026/27 was formally adopted.

The council continues to grapple with the legacy of the financial mismanagement by the previous administration, the COVID-19 pandemic and the crippling doubling of interest rates and inflation caused by the thankfully short Liz Truss Conservative Government that took away the council's remaining financial reserves.
Locally, the Conservative opposition had promised an alternative budget for some months ahead of the meeting.
Yet, on the day it never appeared.
