David is ready to hit peak – after 53 years

Turned down mountain challenge in 1972
AN ADVENTURE-loving 75-year-old will climb a 20,000 Himalayan mountain on a expedition he should have taken on more than 50 years ago.
David Wilkinson, from Macclesfield, will travel to Nepal in October with the aim of completing a three-week trek that will reach the summit of Island Peak.
He is raising money for Dementia UK, a charity close to his heart as his elder sister has the condition.
David had the chance to take part in an Island Peak expedition in 1972 with the late Peter Boardman, a renowned mountaineer, but turned it down.
