Canal reopens after £350k in repairs now complete

A £350,000 repair job has been completed to allow a leaky stretch of the Macclesfield Canal to reopen.
The waterway breached at a remote location between Bridge 51 and Cowley Bridge near to Bosley Locks in March this year.
The Canal and River Trust has since laid a 400m-long metal track and ramps to allow vehicles and machinery to safely gain access and excavate the damaged towpath, embankment and canal bed.
Work to repair the stretch, including a rebuild of the canal bed with 150 tonnes of clay, has now been finished.
