Thermostat fault'could have killed my mother'

Housing provider criticised over 'unacceptable' delay

A HOUSING provider has been rapped after a vulnerable woman collapsed several times in her home in 'horrendously hot' conditions after her landlord failed to fix a faulty thermostat which left her heating on full blast in summer.

At one point the temperature was so high that a radiator valve cover melted and on another occasion, the woman's son claims if he hadn't found her collapsed and in distress she 'would have died.

The resident, who lives in Prestwich and has a progressive neurological condition which affects her speech and movement, was 'left in a home that made her feel unwell and physically sick, according to an ombudsman report. The problem persisted for four months.
