Council funds 14 projects with £1.3m grant from Govt UKSPF

The funding is from the Government's latest phase of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), which the Council is using to back 14 projects.

It follows the completion of over £4 million invested in the borough through the UKSPF which has seen parks and sports areas improved, village halls revamped and businesses grow.

Cllr Jennifer Tillotson, the Council's lead member for economic development, regeneration and town centres, said: "We are thrilled to invest £1.3 million into a range of projects that will make a real difference to communities and businesses across Charnwood.

"We are supporting projects which will help our high streets, assist businesses to grow and provide support and opportunities to young people.

"I have seen the difference the first phase of funding has made in the area, particularly to facilities in some of our villages like Anstey, Birstall and Mountsorrel. I thank all the projects from phase one for delivering these improvements and look forward to seeing the new schemes take shape."

One of the projects to receive support is being run by Love Loughborough, which will employ a street security patrol in Loughborough town centre to provide a visible presence to help tackle retail crime and anti-social behaviour.

Lez Cope Newman, chair of Love Loughborough, said: "We are delighted to be introducing these patrols to help provide some further reassurance in the town centre to retailers and visitors.
