Carlson debuts as Ducks top Canadiens

March 17, 2026

Cutter Gauthier scored with 2:30 left, Leo Carlsson had two goals and an assist and the Ducks beat the Montreal Canadiens 4-3 on Sunday night as defenseman John Carlson made his Anaheim debut.

The trade-deadline acquisition played 23 minutes in his return from a lower-body injury.

“He was a horse. Wow, what a game,” Ducks coach Joel Quenneville told NHL.com. “That was impressive. I mean, just coming into our team, systematically he looked like he played here his whole career. And poised, patient, play recognition, there's a lot of kids back there that he’s helping every shift. I can't speak highly enough of what we just saw in one game.”
