Mum inspired to help others after stillbirth

Serah Barnes, 36, gave birth to Molly via C-section in January, 2019; sadly she was stillborn. Within weeks she and her husband Jamie had set up a cause in their baby’s memory as a thank you to the bereavement midwifery team at Hywel Dda University Health Board and the care Serah received at Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen.

The dedicated team of bereavement midwives provide specialised care and support to families who have experienced the loss of a baby during pregnancy, at birth, or shortly after birth. These teams, often comprised of specialist midwives, offer emotional, psychological, and practical assistance during a very difficult time. They support parents coming to terms with the raw pain of baby loss and are there to offer help with a range of things, such as cuddle cots to allow parents to spend time with their babies, naming babies, a chaplaincy service, along with helping with funeral arrangements.
