Given the recent heatwave, chances are you've been ditching your trainers for sandals or maybe even flip flops.
Summer footwear doesn’t traditionally have quite as much support as structured sneakers, so it's perhaps no surprise that podiatrists report an influx of patients during this time of year.
Gabrielle Conroy, podiatrist at Pure Sports Medicine, says she notices people “transition out of appropriate trainers into things like flip-flops and ballet pumps that they don't typically wear, and then [they] start doing a lot more in terms of exercise - moving in things that aren't necessarily well-fitting, things that aren't as supportive”.

DO... CHOOSE SHOES WITH STRAPS
“I would advise looking for a strap that goes across the forefoot, rather than in between the toe,” says Simone Sandra Paul, lead podiatrist and CEO of The Footlift London clinic and Third Space Medical.
