Council hits back at figures which appear to show just ONE conviction for fly-tipping

SEFTON Council said it is firmly committed to cracking down on fly-tippers - but figures from a Freedom of Information request show only one conviction for fly tipping in the last two years.

However, the council claims these figures have been “misinterpreted” and refutes any suggestion it has not been proactive in addressing the problem.

In response to a FOI request sent on November 13, the council published details on its enforcement actions against fly-tipping during the period covering 2024. In a letter seen by the Liverpool ECHO, the local authority confirmed there was zero arrests, zero charges and zero fines issued.

During the period covering 2025, the council said there has been five arrests, and six people have been sent summons in respect of fly-tipping offences. Also for 2025, the question submitted to the council, in relation to fly-tipping, stated: “How many people were fined?”
