Tributes pour in for former head

'EXCEPTIONAL' TEACHER LED SCHOOL FOR 22 YEARS

TRIBUTES have been paid to a “dedicated and much-loved” former headteacher who died earlier this month.

Brian Bennett was junior boys’ headmaster at Merchant Taylors’ school in Crosby for 22 years, before retiring in 2013, and was credited with leading the school into an era of academic success and sporting excellence.

In a tribute shared to its official Facebook page last week, Merchant Taylors’ Schools posted: “It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Brian Bennett, a dedicated and much-loved former Headmaster of the Junior Boys’ School.

“When Brian arrived as a fresh-faced young headmaster in the autumn of 1986, the school consisted of just one classroom and three wooden huts. Over more than two decades of devoted service, he oversaw a period of remarkable growth and transformation.
