Tranmere Rovers celebrate after Joe Ironside scores the second at Barrow

(PHIL OLDHAM/ SHUTTERSTOCK)

After a tricky first half playing against the wind, Charlie Whitaker opened the scoring with a spectacular free-kick before Joe Ironside and Kristian Dennis converted from the penalty spot to make it three wins in four league games.

The Super Whites produced an impressive display as they managed to record a first clean sheet in 10 games and now find themselves just four points off League Two's playoffs.

Crosby said: “I keep saying we are making progress - I can see it. I can see the belief in the group growing all the time. We have had a brilliant week to be honest.

"There has been a real intensity and good noise around the group - I have seen a big difference in them. The last minute winner at Grimsby sparked something and became more than three points.

“But then you've got to go and build on that momentum, which we now have.”

While Rovers entered Tuesday night's clash in great form, Barrow were coming off the back of a five-game winless run in England’s fourth division.
