'Reform would be Thatcher on steroids... it's a fight we're up and ready for'

CITY council leader Liam Robinson said he is ready to “fight” Reform UK in Liverpool as he called the party “like Thatcher on steroids”.

- By DAN HAYGARTH

The Kensington and Fairfield councillor, who has led the local authority since 2023, opened proceedings in the main hall at Liverpool Exhibition Centre yesterday morning as the 2025 Labour Party Conference began.

Labour has come into the conference trailing to the right-wing Reform in a number of polls and many have called on the party to tackle Nigel Farage’s, pictured, brand of politics. Cllr Robinson said the party is ready to take Reform on and issued a warning about the impact their policies could have.

He told the hall: “Liverpool is a very proud anti-Tory city, it’s a very long time since any Conservative won any kind of election round here.

“But we also know there is a new right wing threat to our country and our city and whilst the name might be different and the colour a different shade of blue, Reform and Farage would be like Thatcher on steroids dismantling our NHS and dividing our communities.

It’s a fight we are ready for and a fight we're up for.”
