CITY LEADERS CONFIDENT FILM & TV STUDIOS PROJECT WILL BE A SUCCESS
Pools staff at work in the building in 1954
PLANS for the continuing development of a Liverpool landmark are to go before the government in the New Year.
The remains of what was the Littlewoods building has cast a long shadow over Edge Lane.
Two years ago, the process began to convert the site into a £70m TV and film studio complex.
Two 20,000 sqft studio stages are the first new structures planned.
The plan is that the existing building will be brought back to life and used alongside the new studios, as well as existing facilities at The Depot, which opened in 2021.
It came after a devastating fire tore through the building in 2018.
Cllr Liam Robinson, leader of Liverpool Council, now says talks are to go on at the highest levels of government to get ministers on board.
Last year, new wings on the building were scheduled for a 2026 opening date, with the full scheme earmarked for completion by 2027.
