LIONESSES football star Alex Greenwood heads a distinguished list of Merseysiders recognised in this year's King's New Year Honours.

The Bootle-born defender, who has represented both Everton and Liverpool, was in the England sides which won Euro 2022 and 2025. Aged 32, she now captains Manchester City and has been awarded the MBE.

The honours celebrate individuals from Liverpool, Wirral, St Helens, and Southport who have made outstanding contributions across sport, education, healthcare, and community service.

Healthcare leaders feature prominently, including Mary Patricia Bennett, chief executive of Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust, and Michelle Cox, a nurse and race equality consultant, both recognised for their work improving patient outcomes.

Foster carers David and Susan Cook, and community volunteers Anthony Joseph Jones and Bernadette Langfield highlight the region's dedication to social support and charitable work.

Merseyside Chief Constable Rob Carden, receives the King's Police Medal, and a host of medallists are recognised for services to the community, including Dr Graeme Muir Allan in Southport and Jacqueline Lowe in St Helens.
