Dad uses almost a million lights to turn road into festive wonderland

Frank McKenna, 47, from Dovecot, has spent the past five years turning Peasefield Road into a spectacular Christmas lights display, with about 40 houses taking part this year.

What began as a small lockdown idea has since raised more than £20,000 for Zoe's Place children's hospice. Frank, a dad-of-three and grandad-of-one, said the tradition began during the pandemic.

He told the ECHO: "Our first year was the year we were all off during covid.

"We used to play bingo in the street from our front gardens and raised a few quid to try and have a street party.

"In November, my neighbour Theresa told me we'd raised about £300 and suggested buying some Christmas lights with it."
