COMMISSIONER'S FEARS OVER POLICE REFORM

- By PATRICK EDRICH

'A British FBI would be alien and create massive risks'

Police and crime commissioner Emily Spurrell

MERSEYSIDE'S police and crime commissioner said policing reforms including the Home Secretary controlling a 'British FBI' and regional hubs is “alien and brings enormous risks”.

Emily Spurrell said the proposed changes place “unprecedented power in the hands of just two people”, and risks “restricting the ability of local communities to shape how policing affects their lives”.

The shakeup announced last week will be one of the largest changes to the police service in its history and includes plans to slash the number of forces and lay out a new model.
