Cops bust annual muck-up day

Almost 200 litres of booze was seized from high school pupils as police officers busted their annual muck-up day ritual.

The teenagers headed to Balloch Park in stunning weather to celebrate the end of lessons but police were on hand to ditch the booze — including cider, wine and beer — which they had taken with them.

It is an offence to have an open container of alcohol in your possession in the area and officers later disposed of the haul.

Sergeant Andy McGarvey from Alexandria Police Office told the Lennox Herald how, once approached, those targeted as part of the day of action were happy to comply.

He said: "We are aware that it's tradition that senior high school pupils towards the end of the school term have a day where they party basically.
