Student's account used in text scam

A UNIVERSITY student allowed thousands of pounds to pass through his bank account as part of a texting scam which targeted families for money.

David Azumara had become involved in 2022 when he was studying for a business and marketing degree in Leicester.

The high-value scam saw fraudsters send fake texts to victims pretending to be from family members in need of money.

They included messages pretending to be from children, stating their phone was broken and asking for money to be transferred.
