A HUGE logistics hub put forward for the county will have “unacceptable” highways impacts, a councillor has claimed.

'Logistics hub will have 'unacceptable impact on roads and villages'

There are fears that new detailed proposals for the scheme could lead to rat-runs in nearby villages.

The plan for the Enderby Logistics Hub was given outline permission last year and will see five warehouses, as well as offices and gatehouses, built on a 33.3 hectare site adjacent to the M1 and M69.

More detailed plans for the scheme, which will be constructed in two phases, have now been submitted to Blaby District Council and are out for consultation.

However, the scheme has proved highly controversial throughout the years of planning - and county councillor Nick Holt has hit out about the consequences for traffic from the plan.

Coun Holt, pictured right, said the highways impacts will be unacceptable, saying safety was being risked by increased traffic at junctions which already struggle with keeping traffic moving.

Access to the logistics hub will come off Leicester Lane, with the first phase of works set to involve site-wide earthworks, main spine roads and the first two warehouses.
