Gurdwara is seeking consent to continue building youth centre

A LEICESTER charity is seeking permission to continue with a development - despite fears from the site's neighbours over the safety of their home.

The Guru Amar Das Gurdwara was granted approval to construct a new building on land next to its Clarendon Park base in 2012, on the condition that work would start within three years or the permission would lapse.

At the start of this year, the family living next door to the site became concerned when a trench was dug along the side of their home.

They claimed the trench went down to foundation level, and they feared it could undermine the stability of their Adderley Road property.

Work on the site was paused temporarily. However, a spokesman for Leicester City Council previously told the Mercury that any damage to the family’s home would be a “civil matter” and not a council matter.
