Disturbance and racing fears with licence bid
April 29, 2025
|Leicester Mercury
A 24-HOUR booze bid for an Asda Express store has sparked concerns from residents, who fear it will cause disturbances and see more young drivers racing along a major road.
Applicant Arthur Food Stores Limited has made the request for Asda Express, in Lutterworth Road, Blaby.
The store is attached to a petrol station which, along with the shop, is known as Asda Leicester Express Petrol.
The current opening hours are 7am to 10pm every day. If the licence is approved, the convenience store will operate 24 hours a day, and be able to sell alcohol at all times.
The application is due to be discussed today at Blaby District Council's licensing sub-committee and has received nine objections, including from Blaby councillor Paul Hartshorn.
Initial objections from Leicestershire Police and Blaby District Council's environmental health department were withdrawn following approval of additional conditions relating to the application.
