NEW woodland is being created in the heart of the National Forest with the help of major businesses.

- By STAFF REPORTER

The eight-hectare Unity Wood, between Oakthorpe and Donisthorpe, in North West Leicestershire is the result of a partnership between Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), its freight and logistics partners, and the National Forest.

About 13,000 native broadleaf trees will be planted, alongside a reflection glade, wetland habitat, benches and accessible paths, with the aim of creating a resilient and welcoming landscape that will deliver long-term benefits.

Previously considered for development, the site will be safeguarded as woodland which will connect into the Ashby Woulds Heritage Trail and provide opportunities for walking, cycling, quiet reflection and connection with nature.
