TALKING POINTS FROM HOME VICTORY OVER WEST BROM

- By JORDAN BLACKWELL

A stunning goal... but win felt like robbery

WINNING when playing poorly is the sign of a good team, so the saying goes. Or it’s the sign of a poor team with excellent individuals.

The latter seems much more true for Leicester City at the moment.

Had they come away with a point from Monday's game, it would have felt like they'd scraped it. That they hammered in an added-time winner really did feel like robbery.

They were pretty good for the first 25 minutes. After the abject display at Sheffield United, there was a pleasing showing urgency on the ball and in the 50-50s.

That speed of play seemed to inspire the opening goal.

They dispensed with patience and played on instinct, with the first-time passes and off-the-ball runs combining for their best team goal of the campaign.

But from midway through the first half to the point of Abdul Fatawu's moment of magic, West Brom dominated.

This was a side that had lost their last nine away matches and were on their worst away run for more than 50 years, and yet they were by far the better side.

The Baggies had 12 penalty box shots compared to City’s eight.

They had eight shots on target compared to City’s three. On this game alone, Ryan Mason’s sacking seems harsh.

This is far from the first time that City have clinched an undeserved three points.

The win at Charlton was perhaps the most extreme example in terms of the balance of play, but the late arrival of Monday's winner makes this a very close second.

City are back in the top half and just four points off the playoffs.

The nature of the Championship means that anything is possible. But after such a performance, it's difficult to be optimistic of a push towards the top six.

Instead, the overwhelming feeling is that it's three points closer to safety.
