Seaside break wasn't quite what my sister had in mind
May 01, 2025
|Lancashire Evening Post
I broke my sister's finger this week.
I regret it now-I mean I shouldn't have lost my temper like that. That part is a lie - but I did break it and in slightly comical fashion.
My sister, Jane, came to the seaside resort in which I live to visit. Aged 55 and six years older, she is the unofficial boss of the siblings (which also includes my other sister Ruth).
No matter how much my mother might deny it, our Jane has always been the golden child.
This is nothing to do with, say, academic achievement (I got higher grades at school) or looks (I'm way better looking), more to do with the fact she's incredibly well-organised and rarely rests.
For example, if I or Ruth have an hour's free time, we'll make a brew and sit on the sofa watching TV. Jane, however, will make three casseroles (one for that evening, the other two to go in the freezer so she's got Monday and Tuesday covered), walk the dog, clean the bathroom, put a wash on, and then fill in application form to be a volunteer at a British Heart Foundation store.
She is, in short, a chip off the old block, for my mum was exactly the same.
