Once more unto the breeches for another remake
September 22, 2025
|Lancashire Evening Post
Anyone who appreciated the spectacle of Colin Firth emerging from a pond dripping wet in Pride and Prejudice back in 1995 will be delighted to learn there is yet another remake of the Jane Austen classic on the cards.
Netflix recently unveiled images from the latest incarnation, this time starring the superb Olivia Colman as Mrs Bennet, Emma Corrin as Elizabeth and Jack Lowden, who is in the Apple TV show Slow Horses as Mr Darcy.
Meanwhile, the BBC has announced a Pride and Prejudice spin-off is in the works with a 10-parter that centres on Mary Bennet - the dowdy one - named The Other Bennet Sister.
Audiences, it seems, cannot get enough of bonnets, breeches and well-bred gentlemen striding manfully across their land in top hats and riding boots.
But while it's a very fine novel, frankly it's been done to death.
