Landmark's owners wrangle extension for urgent repairs

Owners of a decaying listed building in the heart of Preston's Winckley Square have been granted an extension on starting urgent repairs.

Edith Rigby House, which was home to the suffragette of the same name, has stood empty for more than a decade.

In May plans were tabled by its owners, Highdorn Co Ltd to undertake work on the roof, guttering, windows and internal structures and planning permission was granted in July.

During early October it was revealed Preston City Council had lost patience with the London-based property group and threatened an urgent works notice.
