Going back to nature for your final farewell
October 20, 2025
|Lancashire Evening Post
Many people are opting to go back to nature by selecting a green burial for when they die.
-
"The definition of a green burial is a little nonspecific but is generally a burial that takes place outside of a traditional cemetery or churchyard," says Director of Isca Funeral Services Limited, Michael Hull.
"Green burials can be in a woodland or wild flower meadow setting. They promote the use of natural materials such as biodegradable coffins or shrouds often made locally and the sites are managed to encourage wild flowers and native trees as well as an abundance of wildlife. Be aware that the sites often have a very rustic look with long grass and maybe even stinging nettles.
"Typically headstones would not be permitted but some sites allow flat stone plaques set into the ground.
